A whispered knocking at my heart
A rhythmic tapping since the start
A lonesome soul that cries for more
And there you stand outside the door.

You will not talk, or sing, or dance
You can not stand to take the chance
You will not touch to mesh or hold
You will not feel the rose unfold.

The constant pain inside my head
The sheets unwarmed upon my bed
The days and nights becoming years
The toll of truth becoming tears.

You will not stay, nor will you go
Pull me to, nor toss me fro
    Be together or be apart
You hold me hostage by the heart.

A whispered knocking at my door
    A rhythmic tapping needing more
A lonesome soul that begs to be
    A patient prisoner set free.

thank you for writing this...i can relate at this very moment in my life..i am new here and am not sure that it is the right place for me to express my feelings..not good at conventional formats..just throwup words on the screen..ok i guess that is it for now

Thank you for your kind words. I am moved that my words may have touched you in some way. The arena you express your feelings in is less important than the need to have them expressed. I encourage you to forget rhythmic meter, verse, and form. Spew your words/feelings forth, and function and form will follow. Best wishes for your greatest joy!

Poetry is what is lost in translation.
