Hold On

Hold On

Sometimes we have to remind ourselves to hold on,
When it seems there is no one left that cares,
When the feelings you have are too much to bear,
When you want to go on with life but just ain't sure,
Think of all the pain others will endure,
When it seems everything in life is gone,
Just tell yourself to hold on,
Think of all the things you do in life,
Then think when you're dead what you'll do,
When it feels there is nothing in life for you,
Then think of when you leave all the stuff you'll lose,
Life is hard for everyone just in different ways,
So when it seems too hard don't forget you're not alone,
Just take time and think what life would be like if you don't hold on

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
