    Getting old

    They tell me to exercise,
the trick is to move at all-
not to race but go at pace
to be anywhere and not fall.
    So set the alarm early
    and listen carefully.
I must wear the same outfit
I had on the day before
    It's part of getting older
No one can help me now.
The news is not so good
    of my dear friend Jan.
    She entered hospice care today
and knows her time is getting short.
Alas, I look forward to the night
to dream of youth and family,
when I, a girl again, was in my
    mother's arms.
