GAME OF CHECKERS
FREEWAY REMINDS ME CHECKERBOARD
WHERE CARS ARE PLAYING FIGURES
WHERE SPEED AND TURNS ARE MAIN MOVES
WHEN GAME BECOMES SO VIGOR.
FREE DRIVERS - VICTIMS OF THE GAME
SPLIT-UP BETWEEN OPPONENTS
THERE RISK PREVAILS ABOVE THE SENSE
ALL INS AND OUTS WELL KNOWN.
IT SEEMS THAT PURPOSE OF THE GAME
IS TO PREVENT OPPONENT
FROM MOVING FORWARD, RIGHT OR LEFT
AS LONG AS GAME’S NOT DRAWN.
THE OTHER GIMMICK OF THE GAME:
RUN DOWN THOSE WHO ON A WAY
BY STIRRING SHARP INTO THY LANE
AND THROWING OFF OPPOSING PREY.
SOME SINGLE CHECKERS KNOWN AS “MEN”
MOVE FAST AND FORWARD ONLY.
THE ONE WHO GETS THE RIGHT OF WAY
BECOMES “THE KING OF CHECKERS.”
AND WHEN THE GAME IS CHANGING HANDS
AND WINNER’S RUSH SUBSIDES
THE OTHER CHECKERS PLACE THEIR BETS
TO MAKE ESCAPE OR STRIKE.
AND AT SOME POINT WINNERS LOOSE
THE TEMPER AND THE STRENGTH,
WHEN NO ONE THERE IS LEFT TO PLAY
AMONG THE EMPTY LANES.
THERE ONE EXCEPTION TO THIS GAME,
HOWEVER IT MAY END:
THE LOOSER IS THE ONE WHO PLAYS
NOT ONE WHO MAKES A DARE.
WHERE CARS ARE PLAYING FIGURES
WHERE SPEED AND TURNS ARE MAIN MOVES
WHEN GAME BECOMES SO VIGOR.
FREE DRIVERS - VICTIMS OF THE GAME
SPLIT-UP BETWEEN OPPONENTS
THERE RISK PREVAILS ABOVE THE SENSE
