In viewing a lifetime...with my darling so fair;
my heart sank in grief...and filled with despair.
I saw two bare arms...each stretched toward the other;
Both male and female...pointing toward lover.

Just inches apart...to take hold ,or let go;
which one was it?...no way to know !
Fingers extended...close to connection;
yet so far away... from love's sweet protection.

For a moment , I thought...you were letting go of me;
and felt myself slipping away...neath unbearable load.
Then I suddenly understood...you were going away !
and I reached out  once again...ever so little...
but nonetheless...the slippage ceased...with the knowledge
of your destination
