Fire Of Life

O how the so called strong fall as fast as the weak, and their fall is much harder because they know what they seek. We are held to a higher standard expected to shine even in the darkest place, but if our light cannot be seen then how can God recognize our face. One little candle could light an entire room, but if we have no fire to light our candle then like a rose without water it will not bloom. It is our job to find our fire if it is to small to see, our job to refuel it and keep it burning free. Sometimes we lose our attention and forget that its there, until its time we need it for warmth or to see when we're scared. Still we cannot just know its there and that be all, we have to see it and feel it to be able to walk and not fall. Its like being stranded on an island without any way to leave, we yell as loud as we can but like an echo only hear back "just believe". We tell ourselves we have what it takes to rekindle the dieing flame, for letting it get so weak we have nobody but ourselves to blame. Get it together because time is running short, for we are Christian soldiers and it is time to build our fort.

A little confusing, but brought it back in the end. Nice job!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
