figment
you say you dream of me
but a dream is all I'll be
you've no idea who I am
or what colors my reality
I don't know who you are
I've not the faintest clue
your introduction begs me ask
exactly who are you?
and why you'd long for me
someone you've never seen
because I paint a word-picture
of something that's never been
I don't know what to say
or what you're looking for
I'm honored to have inspired you
but I am so much more
it's one thing to dream the dream
of love without a face
to fabricate a feeling
in that misty, magic place
but I'm not good at games
when it comes to someone's heart
I'd rather be myself
right from the very start
in life I'd like to find
a love that's truly free
from the fetters of the past
but I think you will agree
sometimes life gets in the way
of what the heart desires
immutable facts don't change
in the light of desire's fire
I don't want to hurt again
for longings so extreme
you've made of me a ghost
to haunt your midnight dreams
your imagined ethereal succubi
allowing you sweet release
but you must know the truth
the ghost was never me
but a dream is all I'll be
you've no idea who I am
or what colors my reality
I don't know who you are
I've not the faintest clue
your introduction begs me ask
exactly who are you?
and why you'd long for me
