    Falling Away

Summer falls away with the autumn leaves

An icy frost whispers the coming of winter

                            Birds fly south

Stealing the warmth away with them

                            The cold frost stings finger-tips

As the air becomes dagger sharp

And yet this harsh crisp world

Can transform with the lightest of snowfall

The snow falls, and winter is done

Spring comes out with the sun

Blossoming out from under the snow

Urging the flowers to do the same

Up from where winter had held them captive

Spring melts under the heat of June

While trying to hold it back

                            The sweltering sun bursts in

                            And summer rains again

Only to soon fall away with the leaves
