    EULOGY FOR SEAN

(for my nephew Sean killed in a hit and run while changing a tire on the night of 12th October 2008 at 24 years of age)

It seems not too long ago, that you were born
Now when we look around, you are gone.
It seems that just yesterday you were here
Now that you’ve left it’s so hard to bear.
You and I, we drifted apart,
As a child you were too young,
    For long conversation;
As adults, we were both absorbed
    In separate worlds,
    Which intertwined,
    At family gatherings- weddings, birthdays,
    Holiday occasions-
And then there were days like these,
Where in spite of the grief we still managed to tease
A smile and a few words of consolation.
I look upon you now and wonder what to say
To help lighten the load and brighten the day.
All I know is that you are gone
And we must find a way to carry on.
The last time I saw you, you were sleeping
This time we meet, and we’re all weeping.

That’s beautifully written and touchy, I like the rhymes in the end. “The way through life, is the way to your grave”.

This saddened me to tears. May your grief end soon. The end of grief is not the end of sorrow,it is when we can remember without so much pain.

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
