Equal Score

We started off calling it a game
We played-making our rules & promises be the score
Not realizing-that rules & promises
Made all the difference.

It isn’t a game any more
For rules are always broken
And promises are never kept.
We better stop the wheel from turning
And throw the dice away
Before my laughter turns to tears
And pain replaces love
Which I’ve started to feel
Somewhere within the game.

Neither of us knows when, where or why
But we both noticed it.
No questions asked-No search for answers
No winners-No losers
Equal score-Love All.

I wish it wasn’t so.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
