    e-choe

    The maniacal laughter
    Greets my silent walls;
    Bouncing amongst various wooden panels,
    This maddening cacophony
    Jubilantly carries its own chorus.
    Boisterously, I hear it
    Echoing off of comfortably foreign lips.
    From whence does this effrontery
    Originate?
    Slowly I realize
    That the bubbling brimstone
    Is my own.

    When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
