Drugs don't get me down
You know I started doin' drugs, when I was twenty four,
before I knew a line or two, became a gram or more,
A casual line to ease my mind, at first it seemed all right,
it turned into a vicious habit, and it happened overnight,
It started at a party, that I went to one night,
a voice was there, said don't be square, it'll be all right,
That's where it all started, that "fork" in the road,
it's a nasty road don't ya know, and you'll meet a lotta hoes,
pretty soon I lost my friends,I lost my kids, my wife,
a trip to the connections house, made everything all right,
I tried to quit so many times, but I'd lose that frame of mind,
and find myself chasin' a bag, which got bigger every time,
A month ago I gave up drugs, and swore I'd quit for life,
yesterday I did a gram,and haven't slept all night,
Drugs are like a steel door, that opens from one side,
I've seen many step on through, and few are still alive,
I'm one of the few and I'm telling you, don't open that door my friend,
cause' if you do and you step on through,it might just mean your end,
You'll end up in jail, then out on bail, and chasin' a bag again,
it's a never ending nasty battle, and bag chasers never win,
You trade a few hours of pleasure, for a life of sorrow and pain,
and it doesn't matter how hard you try, you'll always do it again,
Now you could be a pusher, and rake some money in,
but pretty soon the cops will be a kickin' your door in,
You'll lose everything you own and life will be a drag,
sittin' in your prison cell thinkin', all this over a bag?
I've made mistakes throughout my life,I've fallen many times,
only able to get up again, after doin' a couple of lines,
It's taken almost 30 years for me to realize,
the reason I fell was choices I made,I wasn't very wise,
Spent half the night just looking back,to when I was twenty five,
this mornin' I woke and thanked the Lord, because I'm still alive,
Today my life is so much better,I'm happy as a clown,
and drugs don't get me down, cause' I don't mess around!!
before I knew a line or two, became a gram or more,
A casual line to ease my mind, at first it seemed all right,
it turned into a vicious habit, and it happened overnight,
