    Death of a friend

Eyes filled with tears and water,
    Wet, salty about to falter.
    "Where is she?"
    "Where is Marty?"

All wet and soured, smelly, wet.
Rainy and sleety and pounding cement.
    Sewage,rail pain and toil,
    "I scream Marty, Marty!"

Pointed chin all fair and blood,
I cry almost to serve a flood.
    Scream aloud "Marty!"

    The laughter is gone.
The pain adheres like glue but,
Worse, like fly paper never to be removed.
    Exquisite scar. pain, pain.
Groan I do, night and day.
    Marty, Marty, too much pain.

    Death shrouds, black, pews.
    Flowers of life.
    "Marty, Marty?"
    She lies still.

yet again i know how you feel :(

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
