DAYDREAMING

DAYDREAMING

As the old man sits on his front porch and swings
He starts to remember all the little things.
He remembers back when he was a little boy
Of all those special homemade toys.
And growing up back in his teenage years
Of all the dares and all his fears.
He thinks of the day he met that special girl
And how at the dance he would give her a twirl.
The day they decided to become as one
The birth of their very first son.
And oh what a joy with the birth of a grandchild
The very first look brought a great big smile.
As the sun goes down his smile turns to a frown
As he remember the one saddest day
Of when his wife was taken away.
But then smiles again as he remembers
What God has told him
That someday soon his day will come
And once again they will be as one.

What a lovely little piece of art! Nice scheme and meter, love that it flows so wittingly and purposefully. Set logically and vivid imagery. No rhetoric nonesense, very meaningful indeed!! Beautifully written, a charm for sure. Nice legacy, btw (by-the-way) :D Ivy

This poem is very touching. I think that it speak to the way most of us feel as we start to look at our lives in retrospect. Great job.

Thank you. I had just lost both my parents when I wrote this and it had me thinking about my life.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
