Poem Commentary

To: My Daughter, Maya

Colors of You

What are the colors, blue and green?

I don’t know but that’s how I feel when I’m around you.

With all this happiness of life you bring to me.

My heart lets out purple and pink…

That’s the love and desire,

The passionate state of mind that pours out of me.

I never thought I’d see skies of black and gray…

We passed our test of love,

We know how to appreciate the goodness out of life.

I see a sunny, warm raze of red and orange…

A feel of excitement when I hear your name, your voice,

When I see your face.

Oh I begin to hear trumpets of amazing grace.

So white and delightful,

So pearl and pure.

The brown of the dirt in which mother natures seeds grows out from…

You’re as strong as you want to be.

The yellow sun that shines over mountains and streams,

The feel of Christ’s love showers you.

Now, when you ask me how often do I think of you…

I say, "Every color that I see throughout my life reminds me of you."

Thank you for being you,

I love you.

that was wonderful dear, I love how you used the color metaphors in describing all the emotions you were feeling. a great comparison of the two. and the flow of the read was very well done even though there was not much rhyming, but that did not hurt the effect of your write, it was great without much rhyming. great job dear, thanks for sharing love asha

Thank you!! I like to use rhymes but I also try to find away around it and still make it flow...thanks for noticing and I'm glad you still enjoyed it. -God Bless-

It reads so easily, flowing the colors of the rainbow with the pot of gold holding the love all people desire. Well done

"So white and delightful, So pearl and pure." - this is pure as are your words. I haven't read much of your work, but I see your heart and feel your soul and that is poetry --- that is the person who writes using their words to become more... to paint a pallet of many verbal colors!

Thank you for your kind words Soul Writer!! I try to tell my soul's story but sometimes I think I'm misunderstood. I'm glad you enjoyed. Take care and God Bless.

"My heart lets out purple and pink… That’s the love and desire, The passionate state of mind that pours out of me"— the passion in this line leaves me breathless. This is a unique poem.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
