    Poem Commentary

I wrote this August 2, 1999 while i was in a group called cognitive interventions. basically they were trying to tell me how to think and act. so words came to mind and there you have it.

    Changes

    Everyone wants you to change
    You feel that you're fine
    Just the way you are
Some think that because you are not like them
    You need to change.
Just because you're different from them
Doesn't mean you need to change.
If everyone were to act exactly the same
No one person would have their own thoughts
So everyone who is trying to change someone
Needs to take a look at themselves first
And realize that inside they're just the same,
    As you and I.
If a person wants to change
They will change on their own
No no can make it happen for them.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
