    Behind the mask

There you sit in the darkened corner
Broken words of promises wrapped around you
The only sounds are those of dispare
Silent crys for help & forgivness echo
Echos never heard for being pulled into the black holes surrounding you
    A creation of your own
You appear not to the flickers of light that pass you by
For to their fortune they're untouched by the mask you wear in light

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
