    AS I OPEN MY EYES

    AS I OPEN MY EYES,

    YOUR FACEE FADES AWAY

BUT THERE ARE THINGS THAT STAY,

    THE MEMORIES OF YOU,

    AND,

    AS I OPEN MY EYES,

I CAN STILL FEEL YOUR TOUCH,

SO I LIE AS STILL AS I CAN,

FIGHTING TO HOLD ON FOR I LOVE IT SO MUCH,

    AND,

    AS I OPEN MY EYES,

    YOUR SCENT IS STILL FRESH,

SO I HOLD MY PILLOW AS TIGHT AS I CAN,

AND ENHALE AS IF TAKING MY LAST BREATH,

    AND,

    AS I OPEN MY EYES,

    I LOOK AT THE CLOCK,

ON THE RADIO IS OUR SONG,

IT SEEMS TO BE PLAYING AS IF IT WONT END,

    AND

    AS I OPEN MY EYES,

    I FEEL MY HEART BEATING,

AND A SMILE BEGINS TO FORM ON MY FACE,

FOR ITS BEATING DUE TO MY MEMORIES OF YOU!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
