Alone In A Room

Alone In A Room

Home from work
the lights are switched on.
Settle in to read the bills.
Alone in a room

The box sounds out one way.
Keeping the focus on how to be.
Occasionally frowning on
those differing, staying
Alone in a room

The time approaches to prepare the meal,
the box continues, ecstatic with social excellence.
Half prepared sustenance endured
Alone in a room

Annoyed with constant reminders.
The box in disgrace.
Pre-recordings are favoured
to reinforce feeelings of being
Alone in a room

Endless replays of the
endless misery
findig a home through
the ears of one left
Alone in a room.

The phone rings,
breaking isolation.
A distant voice, politely concerned.
Pseudo interest and predetermined conversation
do little to resolve being
Alone in a room.

The bottle in the cupboard screams
out for the ultimate bond.
Reality truly hidden, but,
still no escape, we are
Alone in a room.

Sleep an acceptable option.
The double bed yet to be filled.
Dreams bring a smile.
Awaken with hope, but,
crushed to see still
Alone in a room.

A rare invitation to a social occasion.
People run the usual conversation.
When the ritual is done,
the crowd leave one
Alone in a room.

Back home.
The soul, fed up,
searches for fullfilment
on a different plane.
The body found bleeding, truly
Alone in a room.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
