    A trip to the store

Dedicated to Coach King's Health Class 09'

I had a little itch, so I went to the store.
I had $3.75, but cigarettes cost more!
I didn't know what to do, so I acted like a bum.
I asked the store clerk if I could just buy one.
If I let you buy one then you will ask for two,
don't you know that cigarettes could be the death of you?
I said I did not care; saw a gleam from over there,
I found a quarter shining, enough to buy the squares.
"Gimme a pack of Kools, mentholated please".
As the cig was put into my mouth, fire met tobacco leaves.
My lungs filled up with smoke and chemicals galore,
I did this for a year or so as I was walking from the store.
As I continued smoking my body began to feel strange.
And don't forget to mention its harder to find spare change.
I find myself still walking, but to the doctor instead.
It's probably because these cigarettes have made me cough up red.
I looked up at the doctor as he looked back at me,
he said you have to quit smoking or you will wind up R.I.P.
A man that kept on smoking with four dollars gripping tight.
How much is in your hand and will you spend it right?

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.
