    A FATHER

    A father’s love
The love of my father is very important,
I need for him to love me for me not, who he wants me to be,
I need for him to respect me for the woman I have become,
The love of my father is very important to me,
I need for him to love me unconditionally,
I need to hear him say that he loves me,
The love of my father is very important to me,
I need to know why it is so hard for him to love me,
The love of my father is very important to me,
What could a little helpless baby have done so wrong that her father could not love her?
What could a little girl learning to speak have said to push her father away?
The love of my father is very important to me,
What could a little girl have broken that could not be fixed,
Could I ever gain the love of my father?
Could I ever gain his respect?
Could I ever gain my fathers acceptance,
The love of my father is very important to me,
Is loving my father enough for him to love me back,
Is telling my father that I need his love enough,
    Or
Is his love, respect and acceptance too much for him to give?
Am I asking for too much from him?
Is he capable of loving his daughter?
    Or
Is he just capable of loving himself?
The love of my father is very important to me,
But I guess if he can’t love himself he can’t love anyone else either,
So until he learns to love himself I can’t expect for him to love me….

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
