A Dream of Love -- Ray Martin

Oh, would the silver wings of Pegasus
Bear thee swiftly onward to my side,
    Brandishing star and comet glorious
Upon the Milky Way we two would ride.
Venus of the universe art thou,
    Goddess mistress, born thee of the stars;
Heaven’s beauty cannot match thee now
Whilst dance thee to the royal song of Mars.
I lay my cosmic kingdom at thy feet
As colored nebula doth cloak thee fair,
Thy swirling raiment, gossamer and sweet,
Celestial diamonds glist’ning in thy hair.
With strength of Heracles and Zeus combined
I lash the golden chariot of fire.
On flaming trail leaves comet’s streak behind
Whilst serenade I thee with satyr’s lyre.
Then drink we now of Gaia’s nectar wine,
Of forest hues and gentle breezes’ kiss,
I lay thee down in bed of softest pine,
And we, enraptured there, fulfill love’s bliss.

Save me some Gaia’s nectar wine

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
