    Poem Commentary

This was written when my babies were quite young. They are grown and on their own now. I like to read this and remember when they were small.

    A Baby's Love

    A baby's love
       Is a gooey pat
    A beaming face
       In a knitted cap.

    It's friendly coo's
       And lonely cries
    It's toothless grins
       And trusting eyes.

    Two chubby arms
       That reach for you
    A tender heart
        That needs you, too.

    What joy could ever
        Rise above
    The magic of
        A baby's love.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
