THE FIRST REPORT OF THE POETIC JOURNALISM FORUM

THE FIRST REPORT OF THE POETIC JOURNALISM FORUM

This Forum was created by Suspense who clearly stated its terms of reference and its objectives.
“My work as of late has taken a slightly more serious turn, and I have begun to take on the challenge of writing more pieces relating to current events and newsworthy stories. Stories that evoke such emotion in you, that you are compelled to put pen to paper to get your words out as fast as they come to you to express how this knew found knowledge is/has effected you.

I am calling on all poets to post newsworthy works on this thread, and also challenging poets to watch the news and observe the world with a keen poetic eye, watch for stories that need be shared. This forum is the Original Poetry news source. A Forum for news from the poet's perspective. I will be adding to this post from time to time. I hope this catches on, there is a plethora of issues that need to be tackled, and this is a forum for poets to come share, to inform and be informed , and be inspired.”

RE: THE FIRST REPORT OF THE POETIC JOURNALISM FORUM

Thanks so much Cousinsoren! I think the turnout has been good so far, but it can always be better right? Haha. I think this forum can become a very important part of OP if we all chip in and make it so. There is much going on in the world today, and poets need to provide social commentary on important issues and bring them to light.

I encourage every1 who has something to say on any current issue or news story to let your inspiration take you to new heights and write about what inspires you in today's world, and start your own thread in the Forum.

Enter the title of the thread in the Forum as if it were a news headline. And provide any links or pertanant pictures to your work that may be applicable.

Thanks again all, and cousinsorens. Your work is greatly appreciated!

Spence

RE: THE FIRST REPORT OF THE POETIC JOURNALISM FORUM

oh, you two ... lol ... i love it ... what great energy you both bring ... and encourage in others ...
i have a "report" - tho ... it is local news smile ... and no pxs ... hope i'm not out of line posting it here, tho i believe strongly in this kind of news ... the little things that make up our lives ... context ... so ... i don't know that it's worthy of its own thread ... perhaps this posting will simply get your postings a little more exposure. please lmk if i should follow instructions more closely next time smile great work you're doing here! and agreed, SuSpence, with regular current contributions this thread really does become "news" ... love it ...

and with that (and also posting to my page shortly):

Garden News, May 29, 2010
-Spokane, WA

Record rain
after late-season freezes, and
Egyptian Iris
blooming luminescent -
ancient perfume on the breeze.

Purple chive tops,
valerian and columbine pink,
Joe Pye magenta and
crazy daisies everywhere,
each curving maneuver captured
in long stems seeking the
ever-moving sun.

First spring-red strawberry
gobbled up two days ago,
and summer fruit set -
round and green -
gooseberries, raspberries, currant.

Sandy soil welcomes water as
sage tips get ready to burst.
Volcanic ash, arrived 30 years ago,
infuses the earth -
a recent memory in geologic time -
already sifted deep into
soil eager to nourish.

Flanders Fields poppies
just might pop on Memorial Day -
dripping blood red in living color -
and the Bleeding Heart has been
blooming for weeks,
remembering the fallen
of many seasons.

The depths inform the surface;
this little patch of ground
is thriving.

May this breath be remembered
for the beauty it contains.

Blessed Be.

READER"S COMMENT

Great local news in poetry from a Naturallist, Hawk. Just the kind of contribution we need on this forum. In fact, we need news of every kind, as long as it is not vituperative, pornographic, too gauche or racially or politically volatile. THANKS.

We are just having copious showers in the region of Jamaica where I live, after three months of parched drought. Therefore, your poem is of special significance to me. More like a rain-dance..............LOL

Illustrating your poems on this forum will be greatly appreciated. Having any difficulty to do that, consult Wordslinger. "Let us not be weary in well doing." (Galatians 6:9)

Exquisite timely piece dancinghawk!!! Love it!wink

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
